NVIDIAMediaShieldoffersthefollowingadditionalfeatures:
•FreeDiskandDedicatedSpareDisk
AFreeDiskorDedicatedDiskcanbeautomaticallyusedincaseonedriveofafault‐
tolerantarrayfails.NVIDIAMediaShielddefinesafault‐tolerantarrayaseitherRAID
1,RAID0+1,orRAID5.Afreedisk
canbeusedbyanyavailablefault‐tolerantarray,
whileadedicateddiskcanbeusedonlybythearraytowhichitisassigned.
•BootableRAID
ThisallowsyoutoinstalltheoperatingsystemontotheRAIDvolume.
• Migrating
MigratingistheabilitytoconvertfromoneRAIDmodetoanother
RAIDmode.This
allowstheusertoupgradetheircurrentdiskorarrayforbetterperformance,higher
security,andincreasedcapacity.Moreimportantly,thisisaccomplishedwithout
havingtogothroughmultiplesteps.Themigratingfeaturegivestheuseran
upgradeableoptiontomanagestorageeasily.

Spare Drive and Dedicated Drive
Support
• Allows the user to dedicate a "spare" disk as a hot
standby in the event of a array failure.
• Offers additional protection in case of a failure in a
mirrored array.
Bootable RAID
• Supports the use of a RAID drive for loading the
operating system at power up for optimal performance
Migrating
• Allows the user to upgrade for more performance,
security, and capacity.
• Allows the user to change the current state of a disk/
array to another array with a one step process called
"migrating", without losing any data during the
configuration change.
Disk Failure Identification
• Notifies the user when a disk fails and indicates which
one to replace
