This information includes:

• Storage WWN, uniquely identifying the port used to communicate with the SAN

• LUN, uniquely identifying the created volume within the SAN

Using these two pieces of information, the path to the LUN is unique within the FC environment.

Redundancy

Multiple ports help performance and improve reliability through redundancy and failover capability.

For redundancy check boxes to become enabled, you must define two ports (one primary and one

secondary) in the Port Selection table.

• Check the Use Redundancy for all Storage Volumes for this Logical Server check box if you

want all volumes to implement redundancy, or

• Check the redundancy check box next to a specific volume to implement redundancy for that

volume.

Volume & Path Selection

A volume is a fixed disk drive on a disk array in a storage area network (SAN) that is not necessarily

mapped to a controller port. When a storage volume is mapped to a controller port, it becomes

addressable in the SAN as a logical unit number (LUN).

The Volume & Path Selection table allows you to enter the storage volume attributes for this storage

pool entry. If you selected the SAN Catalog Storage Pool Entry or SAN Pre-populated Catalog

Storage Pool Entry storage type on the Manage Storage Pool screen, the values in this table are

filter criteria for the candidates that are displayed when you press Show Candidates.

For a SAN Storage Entry, entering storage port WWN and LUN values in the Volume & Path

Selection table is optional on this screen, but you must enter those values before you can activate

any logical server sharing this storage pool entry.

For all storage types:

1. For a SAN Storage Entry:

a. Click the Add Volume button on the right side of the screen to add a row to the Volume

& Path Selection table.

b. Optional: Check the Redundancy check box next to a specific volume to implement

redundancy for that volume.

c. Select a value from the Boot drop-down menu. Select Yes if the volume is a boot volume.

Select No if the volume is a data volume.

d. Enter the Size in GB for the storage volume. (Size is typically 10-30 GB.)

e. Select a RAID Level for the storage volume.

f. Obtain from the Storage Administrator the storage port WWNs and LUN identifiers

corresponding to the server WWN for each storage volume.

g. Enter the storage port WWN for each server WWN.

h. Enter the LUN identifier for each server WWN.

i. Optional: In the Manage Server WWNs, change the Server WWN by typing in the text

box. This is useful if the SAN is prezoned.

j. Press Save.

k. On the Manage Storage Pool screen, monitor the Status column for the storage pool entry.

(You may have to refresh the page by pressing Get/Refresh Storage Pool Entries.)
