tetrahedral
topology
A topology of NonStop S-series servers in which the ServerNet connections between the processor
enclosures form a tetrahedron.
tetrahedron A solid bounded by four triangular faces. In ServerNet context, a tetrahedron is four processors
interconnected by ServerNet links so as to form a conceptual tetrahedron. Each processor therefore
has a direct connection to the other three processors.

topology The physical layout of components that define a local area network ( LAN). a system area network
( SAN), or a wide are network ( WAN).

topology branch A processor enclosure and the I/O enclosures directly connected to it.
track ID A unique number assigned to customer-replaceable unit (CRU) and field-replaceable units (FRUs).
The track ID is located on a label on the outside of the component, usually following the assembly
number of the component.

Control Protocol
(TCP)
A connection-oriented protocol that provides for the reliable exchange of data between a sending
and a receiving system, no matter how many intermediate nodes the data traverses. TCP, in
conjunction with the internet protocol (IP), is used to facilitate OSM communications over an
Ethernet local area network ( LAN).
tree pane Located on the left side of the Management window, a pane that displays resources in a hierarchy.
The tree pane contains a drop down menu with two options: System view and ServerNet Cluster
view. The System view bears the name of the local system and displays resources within the
system. The ServerNet Cluster view displays resources in a supported Expand network, such as
a ServerNet cluster.

tri-star topology A network topology that uses up to three HP NonStop Cluster Switches for each external fabric.
External routing is implemented between the three star groups of a ServerNet cluster. (A star
group consists of the eight nodes attached to one set of cluster switches.) The star groups are
joined by two-lane links. The tri-star topology supports up to 24 nodes.

triplex Having three active processor elements per logical processor. Also called triple-modular
redundancy (TMR).
two-lane link The two single-mode fiber-optic (SMF) ServerNet cables that connect the HP NonStop Cluster
Switches on the same external fabric (for example, X1, X2, and X3) in a tri-star topology.

unattended site
(dark site)
A location where no operator is working on site and the only access to the LAN is from a
centralized monitoring station through a modem connected to a routing workstation. Dark site is
a synonym for unattended site.
uncorrectable
memory error
(UCME)
An error caused by incorrect data at a particular memory location. The cause of the incorrect
data is one that is not automatically corrected by the system, and memory replacement might be
required. The occurrence of a UCME indicates that a processor is having memory errors. The
processor halts with a hardware error freeze and generates an alarm as well as an incident
report.
uninterruptible
power supply
(UPS)
The equipment used to provide an uninterruptible source of power to connected equipment if a
main power outage occurs. The basic components of any UPS system are a rectifier/charger that
converts alternating-current (AC) power to direct-current (DC) power, batteries that store the DC
power, and an inverter that converts the DC power back into AC power for distribution to the
load..

A collection of troubleshooting and support features that are included with a valid service contract.
These features include:
• The generation of incident reports and EMS event messages related to incident reports
• The ability to configure the dial-out phone number
