Configuration settings and service startup
When Management Infrastructure software is first installed on a machine, the default settings are
applied and there is no Management Infrastructure configuration file. When you make and save the
first change using the configuration interface, Management Infrastructure software creates a
configuration file and writes the changes to the file. All subsequent configuration changes are written
to the configuration file.
If no changes are made to the configuration settings, the default settings are applied whenever the
Management Infrastructure service is started. Once any setting is changed, the settings in the
configuration file are applied whenever the Management Infrastructure service is started.
See also Restoring the default configuration for a machine on page 60.
Interface server (Management Infrastructure specific)
The term interface server refers to the Management Infrastructure software which runs the user interface
integration functions.
Log in user names
When logging in to an Management Infrastructure interface, HP recommends that you enter a qualified
user name. That is, enter a name that includes a valid OS security domain, for example,
user@machine, user@domain, machine/user or domain/user.
If you enter an unqualified user name (one with no explicit domain), Management Infrastructure will
silently append the local machine name. Because of the distributed nature of the Management
Infrastructure environment, this could lead to authentication issues.
OS security domains
The term OS security domain refers to a security domain which is managed by an Management Group
member machines's operating system. All OS security domains have an associated type. For example,
in Windows the types are: local and active directory.
Registry (Management Infrastructure specific)
The term registry refers to the distributed registry tables where Management Infrastructure discovery
components store information and where Management Infrastructure capable applications can advertise
their services and find the services that they need. A registry is located in every discovery component
on every Management Infrastructure server.
The distributed Management Infrastructure discovery components cooperate to replicate their registries
and to forward lookup requests, if necessary. There is no central discovery component or registry.
You can view a registry page in the configuration interface. See Configuration interface registry
page quick tour on page 46.
Management Group security certificates
Each Management Group uses a unique self-signed security certificate to manage login access.
