You c an order data and cleaning cartridges at www.hp.com/go/storagemedia.
Clean the tape drive weekly and when the Clean Drive LED is illuminated.
Be sure to use only HP DDS cleaning c artridges.
Do not drop a cartridge. Excessive shock can damage the internal contents of the cartridge, or
the
cartridge case itself, making that cartridge unusable.
Do not expose your data cartridges to direct sunlight or sources of heat, including portable
heaters and heating ducts.
The operating temperature range for your data cartridges is 5 to 3 C. The storage temperature
range is -40 to +4 C i n a dust-free environment in which relative humidity is always bet ween
20
percent and 80 percent (non-condensing).
If the data car tridge has been exposed to temperatures outside the ranges specied above,
stabilize the cartridge at room temperature for the same amount of time it was exposed to extreme
temperatures or 24 hours, whichever is less.
Do not place data cartridges near sources of electromagnetic energy or strong magnetic
elds such as computer monitors, electric motors, speakers, or X-ray equipment. Exposure to
electromagnetic energy or magnetic elds can destroy data and the emb edded servo code
written on the media by the cartridge manufacturer, which ca n render the cartridge u nusable.
Place identication labels only in the designated area on the cartridge.
Labeling tape cartridges
Never us
e
non-standard labels, and never stick anything to the cartridge other than in the label areas.
Do not
stick more than one label onto each label area; extra labels can cause the cartridges to jam
in thetapedrive.
Write-protecting tape cartridges
All rewritable data cartridges have a write-protect switch to prevent accidental erasure or overwriting of
data. Before loading a cartridge into the autoloader, make sure the write-protect switch on the rear of
the
cartridge is in the d esired position.
Slide the switch so that the recognition hole is open to write-protect the car tridge (see Figure 13).
Slide the switch so that the recognition hole is closed to write data to the cartridge (see Figure 13).
