Adding Conguration Templates to a Group Policy
Conguration templates can be added to Group policies. Group policies are a powerful new automation tool that
can save you a great deal of time conguring devices and HP Web Jetadmin settings. Any device group can have
a property known as Group Policy. One type of group policy is Congure Devices, which uses a selected
conguration template from the list of existing templates. The conguration template can be applied either as
the device is added into the group or as the device is removed from the group. Multiple Congure Devices Group
Policies using dierent templates can exist on a single device group.
Captured Congurable Options and Conguration Templates
Some conguration options behave dierently for single-device conguration than they do for multiple-device
conguration. When capturing device settings into a conguration template via the Save As Template feature,
some conguration options will fail when the template is used to congure multiple devices. The conguration
options that will fail when used to congure multiple devices via a stored conguration template are the
following:
●
Tray Administration
●
Authentication Manager
●
Control Panel Language
●
Default Media Type
●
SNMP Trap Destination Table
●
Access Control List
●
IPv6 Options
●
Asset Number
●
System Name
●
IP Address
●
LAA Address Conguration
When capturing device settings via the Save As Template feature, these items should remain unchecked. If it is
desired to have these conguration options as part of the template, an edit can be performed on the template
after it has been saved and the desired conguration option can be selected and congured appropriately. Once
the modied template is saved, a version of the conguration option that supports multiple conguration will be
used and the operation should succeed. This situation will not occur during normal use of multiple device
conguration or when a conguration template is created independently from a device.
Create Conguration Templates
Conguration templates are used to store device settings and apply those settings to one or more devices. This
can be done to keep device congurations consistent and to make it easy to apply a common set of settings on a
regular basis. Templates are an easy way to change the settings for regularly scheduled congurations, without
having to recreate the entire schedule. Templates can also be used to save many settings from a device, either
for backup purposes or to apply to similar devices.
