
Manage the User-dened Device Conguration Settings
You can create custom device conguration settings that provide additional information about a device that is
not available by using the device's existing conguration options. You can then apply the user-dened settings to
devices. The following are examples of user-dened settings:

Warranty expiration dates
●
Lease start and stop dates
●
Service maintenance dates
●
Location of the device
User-dened settings are available on the Cong tab, device conguration wizards, device list columns, and
reports.
You can export user-dened settings from one HP Web Jetadmin installation to an XML le. Then you can import
the XML le into a dierent HP Web Jetadmin installation.
Changes that are made to the user-dened settings might not take eect for all of the HP Web Jetadmin
features until HP Web Jetadmin is restarted.
CAUTION: Actions that are performed on the User Dened window are eective immediately and cannot be
canceled.
Create user-dened settings
1. Go to Tools > Options > Device Management > Conguration > User Dened.
2. Click the New button.
3. On the Create User Dened Setting window, enter a name for the user-dened setting in the Setting name
box.
4. To disable the user-dened setting when conguring multiple devices, select the Hide when conguring
multiple devices checkbox.
IMPORTANT: Select this checkbox if the value of the user-dened setting must be unique for each device,
such as an identication number. This user-dened setting cannot be used to congure multiple devices or
in device conguration templates.

To allow the user-dened setting to be used when conguring multiple devices, clear the Hide when
conguring multiple devices checkbox.
5. Click the OK button.
Edit user-dened settings
Changing the name of a user-dened setting does not aect any current or historical data that was saved for
that setting. The new name should still reect the purpose of the setting.
1. Go to Tools > Options > Device Management > Conguration > User Dened.
2. Select the user-dened setting from the list, and then click the Edit button.
3. On the Edit User Dened Setting window, enter a new name for the user-dened setting in the Setting
name box.
4. To disable the user-dened setting when conguring multiple devices, select the Hide when conguring
multiple devices checkbox.
